lol , took a leave on wednesday , got a leave on thursday , friday... Awesome extended weekend ! Started c programming , really easy ! Well i got my java and c++ background to thank for that. My post at NMT got mentioned at mobile-review ! Yay for that. I consider it a small personal victory :) Heard lots of good new music too. Try out Faith or Fear , Aeon Spoke. Also heard some stuff by old timers like Dream Theater , Judas Priest and Iron Maiden ! Thats it till now , waiting for saturday , kite flying marathon sessions always feel good :)

Short post this one.. Its something that i've noticed in several places and would like your opinion if possible. People are basically the same. Same as in they slightly resemble each other and have quite similar personalities as such. I've noticed this trait over 3-4 totally separate group and the result has been mostly true. Funny thing is that in almost every case, the groups in which they socialise is also similar. Coincidence or something more ? Comments will be appreciated.

A case study of what is the mentality of Indian rural youth. After taking admission in GITM i've realised that first of all 90% of the urban youth in Haryana is actually very rural in their thought process and in their ideologies. They can be broadly divided in two categories and one miniscule third category. The first category people try to behave like city folk but fail miserably. They may dress in cheap knock-offs of city year but they cannot compete with their forward thinking . While observing then playing a game of dumbcharades , i noticed that girls here shy away from enacting the word love. This reflects directly on their thought process and what they consider to be their limits.The second category refers to people who are rustic in the true sense. They have accepted the fact that they can't compete with city folk so they prefer to stay in their groups and openly oppose all others who are not like them. They seem to be having an extreme disliking for urban youth possibly arising from jealousy. The last and tiny group comprises of those people who can fit in with both crowds. They have the social sensibilities to get along moderately with people from the city while also being able to mingle with the rustic crowd. Yesterday after being depressed with the state of affairs at the college , i've convinced myself to engage in a study to understand these people better while pursuing my studies. In light of recent affairs , i believe that maintaining a scientific and objective outlook towards these people is the only way to survive here. This blog is going to be my lifeline. After the first day itself i've somehow become known to one of the campus goondas. However i think i've managed to turn that association into a passing amiable relationship. At the very least he is NOT going to pulverise me :)

Extortionist Schools... Immorality and Sadism

People do have courage, this has proven true today when the parents of a student from a private school in Delhi rose up against the dictatorship of its management. As a previous student of that school , i have seen the torture dealt out to the students first hand.Corporal punishment is probably a mild term for the atrocities done in the name of punishment , more so when the authorities are failing to provide basic atmosphere for studies. A student , Rahul , has been suspended indefinitely from the school for allegedly wearing 'low waist' pants to school. The crime as stated however is , indecent and vulgar behaviour. The student pleads innocent by saying that he was missing a belt on that particular occasion due to which he was suspended from school. His parents suspect foul play as the suspension letter was already typed out when the student was dealt out the punishment.Over the course of two years , parents of students at Mount Carmel School are noticing an alarming trend in which students are being punished heavily over petty problems. Predictably the parents are offered two options. Either dish out fines ranging from Rs 10,000 - Rs 25,000 depending on the severity of the 'crime' or let the ward remain out of school for a month. For most parents the option is clear. They'd rather pay the money than allow their children to miss a substantial amount of studies.Discipline is essential and schools are given the social responsibility of inculcating it in the children , however this particular school has made a habit of penalising its students to the extent of extortion.While on the topic , i'll also like to point out that the principal of the school whose motto stands as 'Overcome evil with good' likes to torture young students by dragging them by the hair and publicaly humiliating the students. Other faculty members like the honourable Mr. Cherian believes in immoral acts like kicking students and pinching them to discipline them. Having spoken to several students of this institution , the vast majority consider coming to the school as a burden. It is no longer the place of fun and learning it is meant to be. Students are terrified of the school and its teachers. To end this article i would say that a proper committee should be established at the education department which while reviewing the standard of education should also gauge the general atmosphere of the institution ensuring that it is conducive for education and favorable for the students.

TRAI or the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India , is the governing body for ... u guessed it , Telecom services in India. Unfortunately it seems to be doing anything BUT that :( With an aim to achieve something like a 100 million broadband subscribers by 2010 (???) it is NOT paying attention to infrastructure.

Without infrastructure the PSUs like MTNL lack the scalability for managing such large scale operations. Random disconnections strike MTNL BB connections like the plague and the customer care is non existant.

Using an archaic definition of "Broadband" , it is leading India to the stone-age of data communication. How is it that ISPs in America can provide 20mbps data connections without a FUP for $30 (~Rs1500) and we are paying Rs1500 for a 512kbps connection.

Dont even get me started on Airtel with their ridiculous FUPs (Fair Usage Policy). India aspires to be a Super-Power . However without basic infrastructure to individuals , how can they expect to compete with other world powers. Try streaming HD Vids and you'll understand what i mean.

This song is definitely not my own composition, in fact it is a fairly old song first performed by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood ....

It is a really beautiful song. I actually prefer the newer version featuring HIM frontman Ville Valo and Natalie Avalon. Ville's deep voice suits the song a lot. The song is part of the soundtrack of Das Wilde Leben. I'm still looking for an English dub or a version with English subtitles for this movie.

WWDC 09: What it means for You,Me & Apple

2009 is poised to be a landmark year in the world of technology. Windows 7 is garnering rave reviews on almost every tech blog. It has superior functionality and looks good to boot. In the mobile division, Android and the new Palm Web OS are gaining popularity. Devices like the Palm Pre, HTC Magic and also the Symbian based N97 and Satio are the new hotness and are eagerly anticipated by enthusiasts all over the world. Apple is clearly facing competition.

WWDC 2009 is Apple's means to get back at every one. The marketing success that the iPhone has been has also done wonders for Apple's core business of computers. As is evident from the sales figures, The OS X user base has tripled from 25million to 75million after the launch of the iPhone.

This year the keynote was different, the absence of Steve Jobs is a disappointment to all tech lovers. His charismatic personality adds a certain cheer to the annual pilgrimage of the keynote. This years keynote led by second in charge, Paul Schiller, has signaled the entry of some vital products in Apple's portfolio.

New Laptops

Apple unveiled new versions of their arguably overpriced laptops. The laptops widely considered to be a fashion statement by celebrities and a necessity by professionals were given small updates to compete with the competition.

The 15" Macbook Pro has undergone certain significant changes. Featuring the same inbuilt battery as the 17" model, it now features approximately 7 hours of battery life. Apple's niche market ultra-portable, The Macbook Air, has been given a deep price cut of almost $700, bringing its price more feasible in this recession hurt economy.

Crouching Leopard, Hiding Windows???

Bertrand Serlet, while calling Windows 7 as the same old tech as Vista and even going as far as saying that 7 is Vista in a new shell, proclaimed that the new Mac OS X : Snow Leopard is the best and most user friendly operating system out there.

Installation is 45% faster, saves 6GB of space after installation. The entire operating system is built on a 64bit architecture giving it support for up to a theoretical maximum of 16billion GB of memory. That is a figure which for all practical purposes is unlimited.

MultiCore Support is managed through Grand Central Dispatch. Snow Leopard is intelligent enough to do away with unused threads unlike the threads which remain in use in Leopard.

Open CL is a new open source standard created by Apple which allows the OS to use GPU power.

However Apple is no longer only vying for the home users, they are trying to grab hold of the corporate users by introducing support for exchange in Snow Leopard. Finder has been made more responsive by re-writing the entire code. Expose has been integrated into the dock, you click and hold on an app and it automatically zooms out your active windows. Preview works up to twice as fast.

The touchpad can now be used for handwriting recognition.

Priced at $29 for a person upgrading to Snow Leopard and $49 for a family pack, it is a must upgrade for every Mac user.

Safari 4: The best way to navigate the Internet Jungle……..

Safari 4, the cross platform internet browser which has been in beta for a few months has finally been given the go-ahead. Passing the ACID Test 100/100, it offers unparalleled speed. In addition JavaScript performance has been tremendously improved.

One of the most amazing features in my opinion has to be the sandboxed plugins support. Called "Crash Resistance", the browser windows remain intact even if a plugin crashes.

Along with the coverflow like history browsing, Safari 4 also gets spotlight search in History.

QuickTime, Finally maturing as a video player???

QuickTime, the default Apple video player, finally gets a much needed feature…. Hardware Acceleration. Finally, Full HD video can be played with ease using the inbuilt graphics processors. In addition, QuickTime also supports the HTTP streaming standard.

Aimed at putting video at the centre stage, the controls disappear once video playback starts. When you want to go back, the controls fade back in.

Another great feature for video sharing enthusiasts is the ability to trim and video using a video timeline. Grab the ends of the clip region you want to trim and just cut it right down. Trimmed videos can be directly exported to Mobile Me.

iPhone 3GS : The upgrade which disappointed…

40,000,000 iPhone OS devices; 50,000 apps; 1 billion downloads….

Those are huge numbers for a company which has been in the cell phone business for just 3 years now. The iPhone has captured the public eye and has been the hottest gadget in the market for the past 3 years. This year the event focused more in the software improvements brought forward by the iPhone OS 3.0.

The iPhone OS has spawned a new breed of devices which pay more attention to user experiences than just the hardware.

While the grid UI is definitely pretty and easy to pick up for a first time user, It lacks any real new innovation. Apple is now struggling to deal with its own interface deficiencies by introducing a feature which has been an integral part of most other mobile operating systems. Termed 'Spotlight', it is infact a mobile version of the Mac OSX Spotlight program. It is essentially google desktop search for the iPhone, enabling users to search for applications, contacts, notes etc directly from the home screen by swiping to the left.

Other innovations in the OS were directed towards application developers.

In App purchases allow the users to download extra tracks/levels/added functionality for the application directly from within the app. Of course Apple gets a cut from these sales too.
Arguably, one of the most demanded features, Cut-Copy-Paste , was introduces in iPhone OS 3.0. It is clear why Apple has taken so much time to implement this feature. The implementation certainly is one of the best among all the mobile platforms. The OS maintains full formatting, including pictures and links, while copying form one location to another.
Next up, Push Notifications. Apple's answer to background applications, it may seem to be amazing in theory but in practical application, it remains to be seen how well it performs. A fast paced IM Conversation may for example cause the push notifications be more of a hindrance than an added functionality.
Another point which Apple failed to clarify was that as the service is tied in to a connection with a server, what happens during server downtime or if a person is out of coverage area? Do customers lose this multi-tasking ability?
Imaging: Another oft requested feature, Video Capture finally makes it in the new OS but is unfortunately dependent on the new hardware which we shall discuss in a moment.
Technically speaking, VGA Capture at 30fps is not a very big deal as Nokia's N Series devices and many others have been doing this for many years now. Where the OS does shine however is in the usability and functionality. The iPhone captures stunning footage albeit in VGA Resolution. The video camera functionality is definitely good enough to capture your kids playing in the park etc.
The party trick of the video camera definitely has to be the ability to edit footage right on the camera! Yup, just multi-touch enabled video editing. Just touch and set start-end points and the OS does its magic.
After editing, you can easily upload it to YouTube or Mobile Me or even MMS it to someone.
The Still camera has also received some improvements. Touch on face to focus on them and a much improved image algorithm allows you to achieve better photos.
Tethering – The OS finally allows you to utilize tethering via wifi or Bluetooth. However this is carrier dependent. AT&T in the US, does not currently permit iPhone users to enable tethering.
MMS – iPhone users clamoring for an MMS solution finally have their wish fulfilled. Another carrier dependent application, It will allow you to send photos, videos etc to your family and friends.

Along with all these features, the iPhone OS 3.0 is touted to include almost a 1000 new APIs for application developers to enable them to make better applications. E.g.: Developers can now include Google Maps within their own applications.

Speed, Double the Speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The most awaited announcement has to be of the new iPhone. Before the event , rumors soared mile high. The iPhone was touted to include everything from OLED / AMOLED Display to WVGA Resolution to a 8MP Camera, Slide Out Keyboard, etc.

However the keynote event disappointed all the Apple Fans to some extent. There were almost no external changes to the hardware. The new iPhone 3GS is virtually undistinguishable from the previous gen iPhone 3G. Sharing the same shell, display , etc the only external change is the upgrade to the camera. The previous 2.0 MP Camera has been upgraded to a new 3.2 MP Auto-Focus Unit which supports video capture.

The iPhone 3GS comes in 16 and 32GB configurations priced at 199 and 299$ respectively,

Most of the upgrades in this generation either arise from OS 3.0; this is not to say that there are no improvements.

The previous 600MHz processor capped at 433MHz has been upped to 800MHz capped at 600MHz. The iPhone now supports OpenGL 2.0 allowing to much improved graphical performance. The RAM is now 256 MB instead of 128MB. All of this results in improved fluidity in the core operating system and also allows for lesser slowdowns in intensive games and applications.

The navigation solution now also incorporates a compass via a magnetometer, allowing displaying of maps in correct orientation.

The iPhone 3GS which may at first glance appear to be the old phone in new clothes, is much more than that. It has allowed Apple to provide a performance overhead while keeping the hardware familiar for previous users.

Author's Notes

WWDC 2009 was a landmark event of sorts. Snow Leopard is a very important release for Apple to compete with the stiff competition in the shape of Windows 7. Introducing Exchange support will be a definite boon to all business users. Price drops to the Macbook line are essential in this recession affected market. While still grossly overpriced, the Macbook line now finally starts appearing a bit more feasible to buy for the Average Joe.

The real jewel in Apple's arsenal has to be iPhone OS 3.0. At the time of writing this article, the iPhone OS 3.0 has already been downloaded 6 million times. Features which were part of every Apple Fanboy's dreams have been fulfilled. With this new OS, the iPhone has finally matured and has become a true smartphone.

iPhone 3GS, while being an evolutionary step to the iPhone 3G rather a revolution apart has already shattered all records by selling 100,000 units over the launch weekend.

WWDC 2009 : Apple has stepped up the game , what remains to be seen is whether the competition can keep up.

Well first post for me !

For a start , something about me ...

I'm an 18 year old guy and have just graduated from High School. I'm trying to get into an engineering college but am failing miserably at my attemps to get admission !
As for my interests, i'm into books , technology , music...
Thats what my life revolves around...

I am not the most social person you might meet but i do have a great if not queer sense of humor !

I play the guitar , am decent enough at it actually but i prefer singing...

I am currently learning JAVA Programming...

I am intrigued by gothic ideologies but also believe in buddhism. In fact , i might be the only person arround who follows a mixture of gothic and buddhist ideas !!!

I am a part of the Media Team at the foremost website on Console Modifications on the internet, AcidMods.
